- (Spotify Podcast) Libra Today by Parcast
Libra Today is an astrology podcast found on Spotify, in which it tell people who have libra as their rising sign, (despite making the mistake and giving the impression to listen to it if it is your sun sign, by saying "Born between September 23rd and October 22nd") what planets are aspecting and highlighting which house in their birth chart using the whole sign house system.
On the Spotify profile page for this podcast, before any episodes are shown, it has a one minute trailer titled "Welcome to Libra Today!" It also gives a short paragraph description of the podcast and also uses language technique to promote it such as "Let Libra Today guide you through love, compatibility, personal and professional growth." and calling the Venusian ruled target audience viewer "Magnetic and gracious!".
The target audience of this podcast is probably more aimed at libra suns (as the channel has other podcasts easily accessible to people who have risings signs of any other zodiac signs)who are either getting into astrology or just want to listen to it for the fun. I would say this meets its target audience but also completely misses it at the same time. The ways it doesn't meet it is by marketing it toward people who are born between September 23rd and October 22nd (libra suns), whilst horoscopes are calculated through rising signs using the whole sign system not by the time of year someone was born. So this podcast isn't good for beginners and even people who want to listen to if for fun as it spreads misinformation. The one way this does meet the target audience is by producing libra content, despite whether it is marketed towards to wrong astrological placement. I feel as if this would only be beneficial for people who know the information mentioned above.
2. (Spotify podcast) Scary Stories Podcast by Scary Stories
Scary Stories is a Spotify podcast that features and array of scary stories ranging from The Jar to more stereotypical horror titles such as The Ghost in the Recovery Room.
Ranging from 3 minutes to 30 minutes, Scary Stories podcast on average has about 2-3 stories each episode, Which is a lot more content than the podcast above this. This podcast does not have a trailer/video introduction like the astrology podcast. Instead, it relies on trying to create more viewers by the introduction/ bio underneath the profile picture and name. It tells the viewer what is featured in the podcasts " Scary stories about darkness, unexplained phenomena and the paranormal. A collection of short original horror tales made to unsettle you." They also link the website, specifying there is more content on the website.
The target audience of this podcast would range from horror fans to people who just want a good scare. I would say this meets the target audience and the codes and conventions of horror, one example is how it has stereotypical creepy toy box music at the beginning and just leads into the story with no introduction of the narrator, the show or anything. This builds suspense and creates mystery as if you were just listening to the podcast and didn't look at the description etc (and also the fact nowhere on the profile does it introduce the narrater!) you would not really know what lies ahead.
