planning for smile print advert

Due to different circumstances, i am not able to do the tv advert so instead, i am having to do a print promotional poster to advertise minds campaign smile.

For the print advert, i will definitely be incorporating the mind logo, the every mind matters bubble and a tagline. For the image i would like to keep it simple and keep it as one singular image. For the image, i am going to take a portrait photo of someone for the background photo. Then, i will download a transparent png image of a smiley face emoji to go over their face. This is accompanied with the tagline fake it until you make it.

First things first, i filled out all of the pre-production paperwork such as risk assessments etc.

What i done to complete this print advert was firstly, plan out what i was going to do for this advert. After planning, i then started collecting the images that i needed for the print advert from google images such as the smiley face, every mind matters and the mind logo. The next day, i then went to collect a camera, sd card and battery and then used the studio to take a portrait picture of a friend. To set up for the shoot, i used a light, dimmed it and placed it a good length away from where the shoot was taking place to create a low key lighting. There was only one, key light that was lighting the set as this was to give a dark, shadowy, effect as this was used to reflect the mood of the photo and the person in the photo's mental state. After the photo was taken, i then uploaded it onto the pc and the downloaded it onto Photoshop to then begin editing. Even though the photo was already intentionally blurry, i then used the blur tool to emphasise it more. I then used the sponge tool which gave the picture a blue tone. To then emphasise it more, i then added a customised blue tint by using ctrl, command and u which came up with different slide settings for colour, brightness etc. After that, i then added the smiley face over my friend's face. But since i couldn't find a true transparent smiley face, i then had to use the eraser tool on that layer to erase anything that is around the smiley face. I then added on the mind logo and had to do the same i done with the smiley face. Fortunately, the every mind matters picture actually had a transparent background so i didn't have to carve out and erase part of the image.

Afterwards, i then added the text tagline in bright yellow to accompany the emoji and to contrast the background as the blue in the background represents "feeling blue", sad, depressed etc and yellow is the complete contrast of blue.

During the production of the photo for this print advert, i ran into a problem that the lighting i had access to (due to things having to be short notice) was too bright for the theme of the photo- even on the lowest setting. But to combat this, i had to distance the light far away from where the photo was taken place than originally planned.
