Client research

The client for this project is Canon.

Just as its rival company Nikon, Canon was formed as an optical company Seikikōgaku kenkyūsho (or Precision Optical Industry Co. Ltd. , which was a small street side workshop which was in Tokyo what was operated by Goro Yoshida. In 1935, Precision Optical registered the Kwanon trademark, which was named after the Chinese goddess of Mercy (Guanyin) and in 1936, the first Kwanon camera was produced. It was named the Hasa camera and it was a 35mm focal plane-shutter camera. Kwanon also developed the worlds first indirect x-ray camera  In 1947, the registered name Kwanon got changed to Canon Camera co. inc,. But it was shortened to Canon co in 1969.

In the 80's, Canon produced their Canon EOS (Electro-Optical System) (abbreviated to be named after the Greek goddess of Dawn)which was a Auto focus SLR camera. I was developed under 3 major guidelines; The price was not to go up due to the introduction of AF Mechanism, a lightweight design which enables shooting indoor sports hand holding the camera with a 300 mm lens and an auto focus sensitivity mirroring exposure sensitivity.

To achieve the high quality camera, Canon embarked upon 2 years of research and development.
