Finished canon project, evaluation, feedback reflection and skills development

This is my finished Canon product, it is meant to represent how everyone is different, hence the "For whatever journey you take" quote.

The use of the bright colours is to represent uniqueness and also because bright colours draw you in.  How i achieved this was by pressing on colour range and then clicking on the part of the image i want to change colour. But as it only picks up shade and not an image, i had to adjust the fuzziness scale so it would minimise it down to only really the desired part of the image. If there was to much excess, i would just use the eraser tool on that layer after selecting the desired colour before clicking on solid layer > colour layer, but i thought it looked good if i left it a bit messy so i left some of it. To give it more of a 'messy effect', i also added layers with messed around saturation, brightness, colour tint etc. I then dragged one of the layers off the picture ever so lightly to add to the effect so it looks like there is just a big blue bar on top. I then dragged the colour layer that was on the vehicles a bit off of the original unedited photo. To add to it, i then selected colour range and then selected random highlights so there would then be random highlights of different colours to create that effect.

Evaluation and feedback reflection

To start off the pre production stage, i conducted research into the target audience by making a survey. This was an effective way of conducting primary research into the target audience of the product. I used both quantitative and qualitative questions to have more data to analysis. I done this to help shape my creative and logical decisions with the print advert. This has definitely helped shaped my decision in my product. The reason this is important is because if the audience/viewers of a piece of media do not like it, it obviously wont excel well. Later on i then started my powerpoint to pitch my idea to my peers, accompanied with the flat plan that i drew out which its intent was to give a rough idea on the placement of everything on my print ad. This helped the overall product as it helped me plan out what i would like my print ad to turn out and also helped me know what my engagement of the product would be like as i received from the pitch. This helped me see if the audience likes my product.

To actually start the project, i had to first fill out stuff such as a risk assessment form, equipment list etc. This helped the more professional practice side of things as if this was in the media working world, more than likely, paperwork like that would take place. After that, i then began taking photos. Because of it being in a moving car and not in a set location, i couldn't get a location permission as it was not needed. For the photos, i taken multiple on my way to Newcastle. I taken multiple so i could then see which one looks the best and then which one was the best to edit. The one that came out the best and respond to edits the best was the one that i taken in St James boulevard. I am pleased that i took multiple photos as in the production phase, i started editing 3 different photos to see which ones responded to the style of editing i done the best and if i only take a few, i would of had to go back to the production phase again.

With my product, I am pleased with the way it has turned out. The main thing I like about it is how the editing turned out, more specifically, the bright colour and saturation. The main reason i done this is because it makes the poster stand out and because it makes it different to other Canon print ads. How i achieved this was by using colour range > clicked on the part of the image i want in the viewfinder > adjusted the scale so it covered relatively the amount of the image i wanted > selected the colour i want > solid layer > colour layer. I am happy with the way using this method worked as it allowed it to not just be a clean-like edit and it had a messy effect, which is what i wanted. Another thing i like about how it turned out was the saturation, brightness, colour tint, grain filters etc as it added to that unique effect. From looking at my feedback about the print ad from my peers, i have learnt that this piece would excel well if it was under Canon's name and released into the media.  The only thing that i got constructive criticism on was putting more thought into the font to match the Canon logo and to add more small little details for a finishing touch. Reflecting upon my initial ideas, my finished product is very similar to them. This is as i had this idea for a while as it physically and metaphorically represents journeys. It also meets the criteria of the brief which is to produce a print advert representing journeys either in a physical or metaphorical sense. Another one of the brief's requirements is it must have some photography that the creator has went out and shot featured in the poster. This is because of the company this product is for is a photography company (Canon). Throughout this project, i feel as i have improved upon all 5 of the skills including professional practice, technical skill, problem solving, communication and research (informing ideas).
